HANOI, Aug. 18 -- A chief negotiator-level Trans- Pacific Partnership (TPP) meeting is scheduled to be held in Vietnam's capital Hanoi on September 1-10, said Vietnam's Ministry of Industry and Trade (MoIT) on Monday.
According to an announcement posted on the website of MoIT on Monday, in addition to Vietnamese delegation, over 400 representatives from 11 TPP state members including Australia, Brunei, Canada, Chile, Japan, Malaysia, Mexico, New Zealand, Peru, Singapore and the United States are expected to take part in the meeting.
At the upcoming meeting, delegations are likely to focus their discussions on existing issues regarding intellectual property rights, investment, environment, state-own enterprises (SOEs), legal issues, as well as implement bilateral exchanges.
There are expectations that the meeting will bring about breakthroughs to soon conclude the TPP negotiations, read the announcement.
So far, TPP talks are entering the fifth year of negotiations with 19 official negotiation sessions and many technical meetings in narrow scope.
TPP is seen as a comprehensive agreement. In addition to solving traditional issues of trade in goods, service and investment, TPP will mention many new important fields such as intellectual property rights, competitiveness policy, SOEs, government procurement, labor and environment, said the announcement, adding that 12 countries joining TPP negotiations make up a large market, accounting for nearly 40 percent of global Gross Domestic Product and about one-third of all world trade.
