BEIJING, June 8-- Chinese shares closed mixed on Monday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index up 2.17 percent to finish at 5,131.88 points.
The Shenzhen Component Index lost 1.11 percent to close at 17,452.31 points.
Total turnover on the two bourses expanded slightly to 2.32 trillion yuan (379.08 billion U.S. dollars) from Friday's 2.3 trillion.
Shares related to air transportation, hotel, catering services, banks, insurance, and construction experienced a strong performance.
Several stocks in the air transportation sector surged by the daily limit of 10 percent, including China Eastern Airlines, China Southern Airlines, Air China, Hainan Airlines, Spring Airlines and Juneyao Airlines.
Internet and computer-related shares were among the biggest losers. Aerospace Communications Holdings Group lost 4.89 percent to end at 38.49 yuan per share. Pci-suntek Technology Co. fell by the daily limit of 10 percent to close at 51.54 yuan.
The ChiNext Index, tracking China's Nasdaq-style board of growth enterprises, slumped by 4.67 percent to end at 3,704.55 points. Analysts attributed the fall partly to the situation that shareholders of more than 60 percent of the companies listed on the board sold their holdings to cash in.
