The Western Qing Mausoleum
A team of reporters from People's Daily Online and media in Guangdong province visited Shaoguan, Heyuan, Foshan, Guangzhou and other cities in Guangdong, to interview the common people for their most satisfying government works. In Nanhai district of Foshan city, the reporters visited the Nanhai administrative service center.
Self-service: service-oriented government on fingertips
Entering the main hall of the Nanhai administrative service center, the reporters were attracted by three ATM-liked self-service terminals. Citizens can handle personal and enterprise affairs on-line by swiping ID cards on the terminals. Each terminal is a small administrative service center, so citizens can transact their business in the neighborhood.
In the future, the terminal will have the function of paying bills of water, power, Internet and communication. Gradually, the service will cover all the aspects of people's life.

Assembly line working: "offensive" administrative service center
Although the administrative service center has truly benefited the public, it still faced many difficulties and obstacles in the process of its establishment. As some functional departments directly report to provincial government, their databases were not open to the public originally. It took a lot of work to realize the interconnection and interworking.
After the standardization of government working procedures, the power of many functional departments are limited. Now, the government works on "assembly lines". It is much harder for government officials to secure advantages through their powers of office.

Grid manager: establishing a 4G City Network Management System
Auntie Luo, an experienced social worker, now has a new title - grid manager. In short, she is responsible for discovering management problems of her community, taking photos and uploading them to the City Network Management System. And the relevant departments will come to solve the problem promptly.
From the self-service terminal to the grid manager, the Nanhai District actively reforms government working procedures and suits the people's convenience. Though the development of those systems have "offended" many people in power, and put heavy workload on the staff of the administrative center, it is all worth it as long as common people can truly enjoy the benefit.
