College graduate launches organic agricultural cooperative in hometownTwo vehicles without license plates broke through roadside barriers and plowed into shoppers at an open air market in Urumqi, capital of northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, on the morning of May 22. Explosive devices were set off, causing the deaths of at least 31 people and injuring 94 others.
This is another bloody attack following the terrorist attack at Kunming Railway Station on March 1 and the terrorist attack at Urumqi South Railway Station on April 30. Once again, the terrorists killed innocent people with extreme brutality.
At the recently-concluded CICA Summit in Shanghai, participating countries reached a consensus on the fight against terrorism. Meanwhile, criminals found guilty of 16 cases of circulating videos promoting terrorism through the Internet and on portable devices have just been sentenced in Xinjiang. This terrorist attack is a flagrant challenge to the resolve of China and the international community on combatting terrorism.
These recent attacks in China highlight the severity of the situation that China is facing, and remind us to be on full alert at all times.
Delivering the key-note speech at the CICA Summit, Chinese President Xi Jinping pledged "zero tolerance" for terrorism, separatism and extremism when carrying out security cooperation among Asian countries. He also resolved to respond to the terrorist forces with maximum force when talking to leaders of Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region recently.
To better cope with the current situation, China has strengthened its "iron fists". Several additional anti-terrorist forces have been set up. Along with the establishment of the National Security Commission of the Communist Party of China, China has gradually formed an integrated anti-terrorist system that is capable of preventing and striking terrorist attacks, and dealing with the aftermath. This force has become a cutting edge anti-terrorist tool at national-level.
China's counter-terrorist actions have gained the understanding and support of more and more countries. But certain Western countries still adopt double standards and offer ambiguous responses to terrorist attacks occurring in or directed at China. Such an attitude will only serve to encourage terrorist forces. Any nation of laws and any people of conscience cannot tolerant violent terrorism that kills innocent civilians. They are the common enemy of all humanity.
