BEIJING, July 9 -- Sino-U.S. cooperation will achieve things that are beneficial to both countries and the world, while confrontation will be disastrous, Chinese President Xi Jinping said Wednesday at an annual high-level dialogue.
Addressing the opening ceremony of the sixth round of China-U.S. Strategic and Economic Dialogue and the fifth round of High-Level Consultation on People-to-People Exchange, Xi said history and facts have proven that cooperation between China and the United States led to win-win results while confrontation hurt both.
After 35 years of joint efforts, Sino-U.S. ties have seen historical development, with the two countries' interests deeply intertwined, he said, adding that bilateral cooperation has not only benefited both peoples, but also promoted peace, stability and prosperity in the Asia-Pacific region and the world.
China and the United States should look at the big picture of their ties, strengthen them, stick to cooperation and avoid confrontation, for their own sake and also for the world's, according to the Chinese president.
