CHANGSHA, July 21 -- Chinese police have detained 10 people responsible for a fatal highway explosion that killed at least 43, the State Council investigation task force for the accident announced on Monday.
The police have put 20 people "under control," with ten detained.
The 20 people include those involved in illegal production, sales and transportation of hazardous chemicals and illegal modifying and camouflaging of vehicles, as well as the legal persons and safety management personnel of problematic passenger transportation companies.
A van loaded with alcohol rear-ended a passenger coach Saturday on a section of the Hukun (Shanghai to Kunming) Expressway in central China's Hunan Province. A huge explosion followed and flames engulfed five vehicles, which killed 43 and injured six.
