LUDIAN, Yunnan, Aug. 7 -- Nine bodies have been retrieved by Wednesday night after rescuers reached a new site following Sunday's 6.5-magnitude earthquake in Yunnan Province, military sources told Xinhua.
Dozens of villagers and vehicles are buried after a quake-triggered landslide swept through Ganjiazhai, located in Longquan Village of the epicenter of Longtoushan Township.
Military troops and medics arrived at Ganjiazhai after a blocked road leading to the site was made passable.
It remains unclear whether casualties at the site have been included in the current tally. By 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, death toll from the tremor has risen to 589, with 9 people missing, according to the provincial civil affairs department.
