REYKJAVIK, Aug. 7 -- A Second World War “Lancaster” bomber from Canada was here on Thursday put on public display.

The famous World War II-era airplane arrived in Iceland's Keflavik International Airport on Wednesday.

The aircraft will remain on display until Friday morning before traveling to the Royal Air Force base at Coningsby, eastern England, to kick off a six-week tour in Britain.

The aircraft is one of only two airworthy Lancaster bombers around the world and belongs to Canadian Warplane Heritage Museum in Hamilton, Ontario.

The Lancaster is a four-engine heavy bomber designed and built by British aircraft manufacturer Avro for the Royal Air Force during the Second World War.

The aircraft is scheduled to join the only other airworthy Lancaster in the world, owned and operated by the Royal Air Force's Battle of Britain Memorial Flight, and participate in several events and activities.
