NAY PYI TAW, Aug. 8 -- Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi met with his counterpart of the Republic of Korea (ROK) Yun Byung-se on the sidelines of series of Foreign Ministers Meetings on East Asia cooperation in Myanmar's capital of Nay Pyi Taw Friday.
Wang said Chinese President Xi Jinping's state visit to ROK last month is very successful. During the visit, Xi and President Park Geun-hye put forth the idea of making China and ROK partners committed to common development, regional peace, revival of Asia and prosperity of the world. This has charted the course for development of China-ROK relations in the years to come and highlighted the key areas of cooperation between the two countries.
Wang said China is ready to work in concert with the ROK side to translate the consensus reached by leaders of the two countries into concrete results.
The Chinese side welcomes President Park's attendance at the APEC Economic Leaders' Meeting in China.
Wang stressed that the two sides should strive to conclude the FTA negotiation by the end of this year in accordance with the consensus of the two leaders and stay in communication on the establishment of the Asia Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB).
He hoped that two sides should support each other in Beijing's bidding for the 2022 Winter Olympic Games and ROK's holding of the 2018 Pyeong Chang Olympic Games.
Wang said that China is ready to work together with ROK to uphold peace and stability of the Korean Peninsula and push forward the resumption of the Six-Party talks as soon as possible.
Yun said that Park and Xi have set a framework for the growth of China-ROK relations and erected a new milestone in the course of developing bilateral relations.
The friendship between China and ROK has won more and more popular support, he said, stressing the need to maintain high level interactions, press steadily ahead with practical cooperation and stay in communication on the negotiation on China- ROK FTA and the establishment of AIIB, people-to-people and cultural exchanges should also be deepened.
The ROK is willing to join China in safeguarding peace and stability of the Korean Peninsula and coordinate with China on the early resumption of the Six-Party Talks, Yun added.
