BEIJING, Aug. 27 -- Chinese State Councilor Yang Jiechi met here on Wednesday with visiting Sudanese Foreign Minister Ahmed Ali Karti.
Karti is visiting China from Aug. 26 to 28 as the guest of his Chinese counterpart Wang Yi.
Yang said China pays high attention to developing friendly cooperation with Sudan, and is willing to work with the Arab republic to consolidate their bilateral relations and expand cooperation.
Yang praised Sudan's flexible and pragmatic approach in dealing with relations with South Sudan, voicing hope that Sudan and South Sudan can build mutual trust and properly resolve lingering issues as soon as possible.
Karti thanked China for its long-term support for Sudan.
Sudan is ready to advance ties with China, he said, vowing that it will also continue to improve its relations with South Sudan and safeguard regional peace and stability.
Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi also held talks with Karti on Wednesday.
Wang said the basic points of China's policy toward Sudan include cementing traditional friendship, strengthening political mutual trust and deepening mutually beneficial cooperation.
He said the two sides should take the opportunity of the 55th anniversary of the establishment of bilateral relations to jointly push forward bilateral friendly cooperation.
China firmly supports Sudan's efforts in safeguarding national independence and sovereignty as well as achieving national reconciliation and stability, added Wang.
