TAIPEI, Sept. 19 -- Taiwan's meteorology authority on Friday issued a sea warning as Tropical Storm Fung-Wong approaches the island.
Taiwan's weather bureau forecast that the storm center is likely to land in the south on Friday night, before moving north along the island.
Fung-Wong is likely to bring heavy rainfalls to the south and southeast parts of the islands on Friday, the bureau said.
It also warned of high waves, urging boats in the Bashi Channel and the southern waters off Taiwan to be on the alert.
As of 17:30 p.m., Fung-Wong was centered 380 kilometers south of Taiwan's southernmost tip, moving in a northwest-north-northeasterly direction at the speed of 15 kilometers per hour, the bureau said.
