Two major markets, namely west market and east market, were thriving in the flourishing period of Tang Dynasty about 1300 years ago. While the east market was a domestic market, the west market (also dubbed Gold Market) was the biggest international market busy with booming cross-border trade.
West Market is not only a showcase window into the prosperous cultural and economic life of Tang dynasty, but also the starting point of the Silk Road from east to west and the international trade center back then. It was regarded as the first culturally and economically matured urban district in ancient China as well.
