He made the remarks when meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping.
Obama said there has been no change of the U.S. stance on Taiwan and it does not support "Taiwan independence."
The U.S. favors the improvement of cross-Strait relations and expects it to continue, he said.
The U.S. acknowledges Tibet as part of the People's Republic of China and does not back "Tibet independence," he added.
Obama arrived in Beijing Monday to attend the 22nd Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Economic Leaders' Meeting and pay a state visit to China at Xi's invitation.
