NEW DELHI, Nov. 13 -- Indian opposition Congress party leader Rahul Gandhi Thursday rapped the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders as "people who are angry," which is totally different with his party taking the country forward through love and brotherhood.

Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi said at the ceremony marking the 125th anniversary of the birth of Congress founder and Indian first Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru that India won its independence with love but is now being ruled by "people who are angry."

Taking a jibe at Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his Clean India campaign, Gandhi said: "On one hand they are cleaning the road for photo opportunities, on the other hand they are spreading hate."

"Whatever this country has done in the last 60 to 70 years, the basis of all this is nothing but love and brotherhood. This organization has been built on that thought," he said referring to the Congress party.

"Whatever this nation has achieved from Mars Mission, our democracy is due to the vision of Nehru," he added.

He also warned against "attempts to divide us and the country" in a clear reference by the BJP.

"Only the Congress can fight these people as it is an organization (that stands) for love and brotherhood," he said.

The party refused to invited Modi and the BJP to the ceremonial activities for Neheru, saying it only invited those who support the former prime minister's vision of multilateralism and democracy.
