BEIJING, Dec. 3-- Ahead of Thursday's inaugural Constitution Day, Chinese President Xi Jinping has called for more awareness of the Constitution, and better understanding of the role of law.
Xi said in an instruction that the Constitution is the general regulation for the country and it embodies the will of the Party and the people.
Xi made the remarks ahead of the country's first Constitution Day, which falls on Dec. 4 every year.
The day was set up by the country's top legislature on Nov. 1 of this year. Prior to that, the initiative was put forward in a key meeting of the Communist Party of China (CPC) in October on comprehensively advancing the rule of law.
Xi said the Constitution of China conforms to national conditions and realities, and is in accordance with the development of the times.
The Constitution serves as a guarantee of the socialist path with Chinese characteristics, Xi said, adding that the rule of law must be in harmony with the Constitution, as much as administration according to law must also abide by it. The Constitution's authority must be safeguarded.
Xi said the Constitution Day should be used to promote the awareness of the country's fundamental law, so that the Constitution may be fully implemented and thus play a key role in advancing reform and rule of law.
