President Xi Jinping has met with Chief Executive of the Macao Special Administrative Region, Chui Sai On, in Beijing. Chui was re-elected by a committee last month for a second term as chief executive of Macao SAR.

President Xi Jinping praised Chui’s work during his last tenure. Xi Jinping said Macao’s internal and external environment has changed a lot. He urged Chui to improve governance and boost sustainable development, to lay a solid foundation for the implementation of the "one country, two systems" policy.

Earlier today, Premier Li Keqiang officially installed Chui as chief executive of Macao SAR. Premier Li vowed support for the Macao SAR and closer ties between the region and the mainland. He said the central government will continue to thoroughly and accurately implement the principles of "one country, two systems," "Macao people administering Macao," and a high degree of autonomy for the region while following the Macao Basic Law.
