UNITED NATIONS, Dec. 11 -- The UN Security Council on Thursday condemned "in the strongest terms" the suicide attack at the French Institute of Afghanistan in Kabul.

"The members of the Security Council reiterated their serious concern at the threats posed by the Taliban, Al-Qaida and other terrorist and extremist groups, and illegal armed groups to the local population, national security forces, international military and international assistance efforts in Afghanistan, particularly in light of other terrorist attacks in Kabul and elsewhere in the country," said a press statement.

Earlier in the day, a teenage suicide bomber blew himself up at French built High School the Istiqlal Lycee in downtown Kabul while hundreds of people gathered at the hall of the French cultural center.

At least one person was killed and 20 others were wounded. According to the statement, the Taliban has claimed responsibility for this attack.

The Security Council urged all states to cooperate actively with the Afghan authorities to bring perpetrators, organizers, financiers and sponsors of these acts of terrorism to justice, said the statement.

"The members of the Security Council reiterated that no terrorist act can reverse the path towards Afghan-led peace, democracy and stability in Afghanistan, which is supported by the people and the Government of Afghanistan and by the international community," said the statement.
