BEIJING, Dec. 15 -- Chinese Premier Li Keqiang is in Kazakhstan for an official visit to the central Asian country and the 13th prime ministers' meeting of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO).
The following are some major events in China-Kazakhstan relations.
On Jan. 3, 1992, China and Kazakhstan signed a joint communique on the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries.
In December 2002, as the guest of then Chinese President Jiang Zemin, Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev paid a four-day state visit to China. The two heads of state signed a good-neighborly treaty of friendship and cooperation between China and Kazakhstan.
In July 2005, then Chinese President Hu Jintao visited Kazakhstan and attended an SCO summit. Hu and Nazarbayev decided to upgrade the bilateral ties to a strategic partnership and reached important consensus on boosting bilateral cooperation.
In October 2008, then Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao paid a three-day official visit to Kazakhstan and attended the seventh prime ministers' meeting of the SCO. Wen and his Kazakh counterpart, Karim Masimov, agreed to promote practical cooperation between the two countries.
In December 2009, Hu paid a working visit to Kazakhstan aimed at enhancing the strategic partnership between China and Kazakhstan. The Chinese leader attended the inauguration ceremony for the China-Kazakhstan natural gas pipeline, which is part of the China-Central Asia pipeline.
In June 2010, Hu paid a state visit to Kazakhstan. The two countries pledged concerted efforts to further deepen strategic partnership, expand comprehensive cooperation and strengthen coordination on regional and international affairs.
In February 2011, Nazarbayev arrived in Beijing for a three-day state visit. China and Kazakhstan inked eight cooperation agreements ranging from water protection to high-speed railway, as the two heads of state vowed to boost the strategic partnership and bilateral cooperation.
In June 2012, Nazarbayev visited China and attended an SCO summit in Beijing. Hu and Nazarbayev vowed to enhance the strategic partnership between the two nations.
In September 2013, Chinese President Xi Jinping paid his first state visit to Kazakhstan, after attending a Group of 20 summit in Russia. Xi and Nazarbayev summed up the development of the China-Kazakhstan partnership and charted the future course for bilateral cooperation.
