BEIJING, Dec. 15 -- China's top political advisor Yu Zhengsheng urged overseas Chinese to contribute to China-US relations.
Yu, chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, made the remarks at a meeting with representatives of overseas Chinese and experts who are in Beijing to attend a seminar on the 35th anniversary of the establishment of China-US diplomatic relations.
The relationship between the world's largest developing and developed countries has been generally stable in the past 35 years despite ups and downs, Yu said.
The China-US relationship has been one of the most important and energetic bilateral relationship across the world and one that will benefit not only themselves but also the whole world, he said.
However, to build a new type of major-country relationship between China and the United States, more efforts should be made and overseas Chinese are welcomed to join and contribute, he continued.
Yu praised the long-term support and assistance from overseas Chinese to China's development and the friendship between the two countries.
He welcomed overseas Chinese to take a more active part in the country's economic development while the country is adapting to the "new normal" of slower growth speed but higher quality.
