Top government officials in Wuhan, the capital of central China's Hubei province are facing the heat from the public in a televised program that aims to create a platform that allows ordinary citizens to pose their questions directly to top officials.
The officials' performance during a nightly TV crossfire will even be included in their annual performance review for the first time, Chinese News Agency Xinhua reports.
Heads of government agencies will field questions from the public on during the 5-day series, aired on Wuhan TV from January 6 to 10.
Over 120,000 questions and suggestions were collected via telephone interviews, online surveys and through other regional media outlets. The program producers then selected ten prominent issues that affect most local citizens.
An independent panel of 150 people, including officials from the National People's Congress (NPC), committee members of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), media personnel and specially guests will score the officials' based on their answers.
