BEIJING, Jan. 22 -- Microsoft announced its new version of operating system Windows 10 can be upgraded free of charge.
The company said Windows 10 will be a free upgrade for most recent versions of Windows users. Microsoft typically charges hundreds of dollars for new versions of Windows.
Analysts said the world's largest software company tries to retain customers in the mobile era through the "free" strategy.
The "free" strategy is designed to put Windows in as many devices as possible. Users of the Windows 7 and 8.1 system on PC, tablet and Windows Phone will have free access to the new operating system.
Besides, Windows 10 will support seamless connection between PC, mobile phones and tablets and multi-platform synchronous collaboration.
Windows 10 is expected to hit market this autumn and its free upgrade will be available for one year.
