
XI'AN, Jan. 26 -- Five people were killed and seven others injured after two trucks ploughed into a crowd in northwest China's Shaanxi Province, according to local authorities.
The accident occurred at around 11:10 a.m. on Sunday in Jiujianfang Village, Lantian County when the trucks veered onto the sidewalk, where a group of villagers was attending a wedding ceremony, said a statement from the county's publicity bureau.
The drivers lost control of their vehicles after one failed to overtake the other and they collided, said the statement.
Three people were killed on the spot and two others died later in the hospital. Three of the injured remain hospitalized while the others have been discharged from the hospital.
The drivers have been detained by local police.
