
HEFEI, Jan. 31-- Five miners have been killed and two others remain trapped in a flooded coal mine in east China's Anhui Province, local authorities said Saturday.
The accident happened in a shaft of Zhuxianzhuang coal mine in Yongqiao District under Suzhou City at 6:55 p.m. Friday when 34 miners were working underground. Twenty-seven miners managed to escape while seven others were trapped, according to Huaibei Mining (Group) Co. Ltd., the owner of the coal mine.
Rescuers have retrieved five bodies and are still searching for the other two trapped miners.
The cause of the accident is under investigation.
