Rome, March 17 - The traveling exhibition Chagall,Love and Life has reached Rome, where it is on view at theChiostro del Bramante Museum through July 26.
The retrospective of 140 drawings, gouaches, etchings andcanvases are on loan from the Israel Museum in Jerusalem, whichMarch Chagall (1887-1985) himself first endowed with a gift ofhis works, a legacy which was continued by his daughter.
"The show offers up an intimate vision of Chagall'sunderstanding of love, which slowly changes from individual toideal love," said Israel Museum Deputy Director Tania Coen.
The exhibition's eight sections are an artistic andspiritual map of the Russian-French master's poetic evolution, from the nostalgic views of his native Belarus to hispilgrimages through Europe to his life in France.
"Only love interests me, and I am only in contact withthings that revolve around love," Chagall wrote.
The exhibition travels next to Beijing.
