NEW DELHI, March 23 -- Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi Monday condoled the death of Singapore's founding father Lee Kuan Yew and described him as a "lion among the leaders".
"A far-sighted statesman and a lion among leaders, Mr Lee Kuan Yew's life teaches valuable lessons to everyone. News of his demise is saddening," Modi tweeted.
The first Prime Minister of Singapore passed away early this morning after battling severe pneumonia for nearly one and a half months, at the age of 91. Lee is credited with the transformation of the island nation into a global financial powerhouse.
