YANGON, March 24 -- None of the four workers with fever symptoms from chicken farms in Monywa, Myanmar's northwestern Sagaing region, were infected with bird flu virus recently after testing, the Ministry of Health said on Tuesday.
Some 1,400 chickens and over 10,000 quails died as bird flu H5N1 broke out at a poultry farm zone in Monywa in February and following the outbreak, more than 1,500 chickens and 20,000 quails were culled in the area in a bid to prevent spread of the disease across the country under its bio-security measure.
The nearby Mandalay region also took measures to stay alert against the possible spread of the bird flu by educating poultry farmers on early prevention, warning and detection at wet poultry markets and farms as well as teaching preventive techniques to farm workers to ensure bio-security.
So far, no outbreak of avian influenza disease in Mandalay region till now as poultry were checked at the entrances to Mandalay from Monywa, according to earlier report.
Myanmar has seen seven outbreaks of bird flu from 2003 to 2014 with Sagaing region being struck in 2006 and 2012.
The country has implemented the National Strategic Plan for Prevention and Control of Avian Influenza and Human Influenza Pandemic.
