
According to a survey by Ford Motor Company, 59 percent of Chinese drivers use WeChat, 36 percent of them play Weibo and 31 percent of them take selfies while driving. This data ranks top in the Asian-Pacific region.
Distracted driving is ubiquitous in drivers of Asian-Pacific region. A large number of people admitted to receiving and sending messages, having a drink, checking social media and taking selfies when driving.
In the Philippines, 48 percent of the surveyed admitted to logging onto Facebook while driving; 42 percent of drivers took selfies without holding the steering wheel. In Thailand, 47 percent of the surveyed checked Line and other instant messaging tools. In India, 56 percent of the surveyed drivers made a call or answered the phone and 55 percent of them operated the car audio.
Ford Motor Company has paid attention to distracted driving and conducted specific research for many years. "We have already developed effective technological means to improve the safety and help drivers use mobile phones and other electronic equipment," said Pete Hardigan, Director of Sustainability, Environment and Safety Engineering, Asia Pacific, Ford Motor Company.
