Undeterred by filthy vomit, a nurse in Taizhou in China's Eastern Province of Zhejiang performed a mouth-to-mouth resuscitation for over 20 minutes in an attempt to save a 75-year-old man who passed out recently while doing exercises in a park.
Even though Wang Danping, the Samaritan who works as a nurse at Taizhou No. 1 People's Hospital, eventually failed to save the old man, his family was so grateful for her angelic act that they gave her a silk banner to express their thanks. A passerby shot the whole process with his smart phone and uploaded the video to the internet, and numerous netizens were touched by Wang's kindness.
On the morning of June 29, 2015, Wang saw a small crowd in a park near her home when doing her morning exercise. As she approached, she found out that a fainted old man was lying on the ground. Someone had called the police, but apparently something else had to be done in order to save the old man.
Touching the old man's carotid artery and feeling no pulse, Wang squatted and began to perform CPR on him. She pressed his chest and did artificial respiration mouth-to-mouth to him.
As foam and vomit were coming out of the old man's mouth, Wang wiped off the vomit with a towel and went on with the CPR. Ten more minutes had passed and the old man showed no sign of coming to life. Some onlookers tried to persuade her to give up. However, Wang kept doing the CPR until she was totally exhausted.
Usually a CPR session takes 3 minutes to finish. And it is a tiring work even for this short period of time. But Wang performed for over 20 minutes.
