THE HAGUE, July 9 -- Ten students from the University of Amsterdam (UvA) and five from Technical University Delft will spend two weeks in China in July as part of Huawei's "Seeds for the Future" program which aims at better preparing the new generation for the technology-driven future, the Dutch office of Huawei announced Thursday.
The 15 undergraduates will have a four-day cultural immersion course at Beijing University of Language and Culture before going to Huawei's headquarters in Shenzhen, south China, where they will get hands-on experience and gain technical expertise in the ICT industry, said Walter Feng, chief financial officer of the Dutch branch of Huawei.
"Through its Seeds for the Future program, Huawei provides high quality ICT training and internships for students in China and also enables them to be fully immersed in a global business operation, cross-cultural work practices, and Chinese culture," said Feng.
With educational background ranging from physics, astronomy, mathematics to artificial intelligence or mechanical engineering, all the youngsters seemed eager for their coming trip. It will be a special opportunity to see China, a growing international player, from up close and from inside, said Zazo Meijs, a 21-year-old student of physics and astronomy at UvA.
For Bruis van Vlijmen, an 18-year-old mechanical engineering student from University Delft, the trip will be helpful for him to "combine what is learnt at university and what is necessary in the industry".
It is the second year that Huawei has operated this program in The Netherlands. Globally, Huawei's "Seeds for the Future" program cooperates with more than 100 universities in 35 countries.
