Japanese animation director Hayao Miyazaki harshly criticized Abe’s historical understanding and his efforts to amend the Japanese constitution, saying that “People who are short-sighted should not be allowed to meddle with the constitution.”
In a magazine published last week, the award-winning director said he is “disgusted” by proposals to replace the Constitution, including the war-renouncing Article 9.
Regarding the China-Japan ties, Miyazaki said using military force to contain China is impossible.
Miyazaki also expressed his views on the comfort women issue, saying that Japan should apologize and pay compensation.
Born in 1941, Hayao Miyazaki is one of Japan's greatest animation directors.
