One in every four foreign tourists in Japan is Chinese, the data from the Japan Travel Agency shows.

With a weaker yen and relaxed visa requirements, Japan is seeing a significant increase in tourists traveling to the country this year, with many of whom are from China.

As of October, 2015, the number of tourists in Japan has reached 16.3 million, up 48.2 percent year-on-year. Among the pool, 4.28 million are Chinese tourists, doubling from last year's figure, according to the latest statistics from Japan National Tourism Organization.

It is estimated that the total number of Chinese tourists visiting Japan this year could hit a record high of five million.

And tourists from China are driving Japan’s tourism spending to a new high level.

According to the Japan Tourism Agency, Chinese visitors accounted for $8.1 billion that foreign tourists spent in Japan, a 82 percent increase from the same period last year. That makes China Japan's largest source of foreign tourists.

The increase in Chinese visitors not only contributed to Japan’s economy and tourism industry, it also saved some businesses like the Mt. Fuji Shizuoka Airport from losing money.
