The signing ceremony of the China-Laos Railway Project was held in Beijing on November 13, indicating the first international railway to Southeast Asia crossing Pu’er City officially stepped into the stage of implementation.
The China-Laos Railway, mainly invested, constructed and operated by China, is the first overseas railway project directly connecting to China’s railway network. The whole line is constructed with Chinese equipment by Chinese technical standards. Entering Laos through Mohan/Boten (two countries’ border), the Project extends southward to Vientiane – the capital of Laos.
The China-Laos Railway, 418 kilometers in length, costs a total of RMB 40 billion. The project is constructed jointly by China and Laos in a share-based proportion of 7:3. It is predicted that the railway will be completed and opened to traffic in 2020.
