
MALE, Dec. 21 -- Maldives President Adbulla Yameen on Monday conveyed his condolences to Chinese President Xi Jinping over a devastating landslide in Shenzen in southeastern China.
In a statement released by the President's Office, Yameen said that he was deeply saddened to learn of the devastating landslide which had injured many and had left dozens unaccounted for.
"In this hour of deep distress, the government and the people of Maldives, join me in sending our profound sympathy to you, the government and the people of China," Yameen wrote to his Chinese counterpart.
"I wish the recovery efforts every success and commend the tenacity of the people of China in the face of such tragedy," he added.
More than 90 people are missing after a landslide damaged 33 buildings in an industrial park in south China on Sunday.
The Chinese government has ordered immediate rescue efforts following the landslide in the city of Shenzhen, in Guangdong province.
