
In 2012, Xiangzhou District, Xiangyang City announced the first batch of an 18-item regional intangible cultural heritage list, which included the Legend of Meng Haoran. Recently, Xiangzhou District formally announced the second batch of regional intangible cultural heritage list, covering 4 items from 2 categories - the traditional skills and the folk custom.
The list includes 3 major traditional skills of Xiangzhou-Mulberry Fork Production Skills, Oil Extracting Skills of Zhang’s Family, and Yellow Rice Wine Making Skill of Master Hei, all of which are imbued with the diligence and wisdom of the masses.
Bad Luck Warding-off Garments for Children in Xiangbei is the only item in the category of folk custom that has been included into the second batch of regional intangible cultural heritage list. As a kind of dressing custom in Xiangbei, it not only carries people’s wishes and reflects the elder’s loving care for children, but also becomes a valuable handicraft relying on pure hand sewing.
