A wild elephant in a scenic area in China’s southwest Yunan province damaged 15 vehicles of tourists on Friday when it accidentally wandered into nearby national road after a failed mating attempt, according to the information office of local government.
Fortunately nobody was injured, and owners of damaged vehicles will receive compensation from insurance companies.
The elephant, named Zhusunya, left the Yexianggu (Wild Elephant Valley) scenic area in Xishuangbanna Dai Autonomous Prefecture and played on the G213 highway for about 20 minutes, during which it dented and damaged vehicles parked along the roadside.
Staff from the scenery park said that Zhusunya is in an unstable mood since it is mating season. It also lost a mating fight to another male adult elephant a few days ago, which explains its erratic behaviors.
Park ranger added this kind of incident had rarely happened before. They have already closed sections of the park after Zhusunya entered the scenic area.

Wild elephant activities have been frequent since the prefecture entered dry season, especially during the Spring Festival holidays. Given the influx of self-driving tourists, the scenic area has assigned staffs on duty and reserved special elephant passages, where parking is prohibited.
