China has rolled out research and development experiment of the fifth generation communication (5G) and planned to build an open research and development platform for the 5G technology in 2016, said Zhang Feng, Chief Engineer of the Ministry of Industry and Information at a press conference on Thursday.
The cutting-edge 5G technology will be fully commercialized in 2020, Zhang added.
Theoretically, 5G can support the data transmission speed of up to several 10 Gbit/s, more than 100 times faster than the 4G network. With 5G, the copy of a high-definition film is expected to zip to your service within one second and provide customers with better online experience.
The Ministry of Industry and Information said the experiment stage will last three years, from 2016 to 2018.
