Photos taken on April 8, 2016, show a Siberian tiger mother frolicking with her one-week-old baby cubs in a tiger center in northeast China’s Shenyang. The 6-year-old mother has already given birth to 4 cubs this year, another 5 last year, and 4 more the year before last. She now has a total of 13 babies. It is an extremely rare case, and the staff members at the tiger center nicknames this female tiger as “heroine tiger mom”.

According to the staff members at the center, a tiger in general would give birth to two to four cubs after three-month pregnancy. It is already rare to see quadruplets, and the case of quintuplets here is thus extraordinary. The newborn quadruplets have “opened their eyes”, said the staff members. The cubs will be ready to meet visitors in the coming Labour Day Holiday at the beginning of May, and their age will roughly equal to that of an 100-day-old human baby by then.
