Over 1,000 wild peony plants are seen to be in full bloom in Bian Hill, Xiangyang, on March 31, 2016.
This batch of peony plants, shown in the picture above, numbers over 1,000, and comes in five varieties (which are known in Chinese phonetic alphabet as Ziban, Luanye, Yangshan, Fengdan and Baokanghong). The batch was introduced by the technicians of Xiangyang Forestry Station from Baokang County in 2013. Now that the peony plants were in full bloom in late March, it is safe to say that the wild peony varieties have been successfully introduced to downtown Xiangyang.
According to experts, the wild varieties grow natively at an altitude of about 1,700 meters above sea level, and it is Xiangyang's first time that it has succeeded in bringing them to grow within the lower altitude range of 90 to 250 meters above sea level.
