A noted Chinese eSports player was injured by a Didi driver in Changsha, central China’s Hunan province with his left wrist badly slashed.
Ma Xiqing, the player, had his left wrist and back slashed on Friday as he was riding in a car arranged by DidiChuxing, a leading Chinese ride app and also Uber’s Chinese rival, reported the official Sina Weibo account of the Newbee e-sports club where Ma worked.
The club claimed that Ma suffered from a 50-centimeter-long cut on his back and two tendons on his left hand were cut by the driver.
According to the club, Ma and the driver had agreed not to pool any other passengers, but the driver changed his mind and instead drove in the opposite direction to pick up another passenger. The driver also ignored Ma’s demand to get out of the car and began to chase after Ma when he left the car.
The 22-year-old driver, Li Yong, has surrendered himself to local police in Changsha and is now in criminal detention, local police said Sunday.
DidiChuxing on Sunday responded that Li was not registered on its platform and instead was using another driver’s account and vehicle. The lender’s account has been permanently shut down. The company also pledged compensation to Ma.
Ma was reportedly heading to Shanghai to attend a FIFA Online 3 Star League match, according to a press release from EA SPORTS FIFA Online 3. It added that Ma is one of the early Chinese FIFA OL players who have won multiple international awards. Ma won a runner-up prize in Asia during the 2004 FIFA Interactive World Cup.
