Recently, a video went viral on the Internet. In the video, a foreigner is directing traffic on a crossroad located in Guiyang, a southwestern city Guizhou province.
The man in the video is a teacher surnamed Bruce from New Zealand. He is currently a staff member at the Guizhou University of Finance and Economics.
In the video, Bruce is trying to bring order to the jammed crossroad. He is standing on the street, yelling at vehicles coming from different directions. A driver who's not listening to him tries to cut in line. Bruce runs to him and stops him yelling "No!" with his arms raised high.
Other than cars, Bruce is also directing people when they are crossing the street. In the video a woman pushing a baby stroller is walking among the traffic flow. Later Bruce stops her and leads her to the sidewalk, saying "It's not your way."
According to Bruce's students, the 60-year-old teacher is a lovely man. He teaches in a rigorous manner but with humor.
Bruce said, the crossroad is filled with buses, private cars, motorcycles and even people crossing the streets. Accidents can happen any time and it's very dangerous, he added. Bruce lives in a nearby apartment and wishes to make this intersection pass cars more smoothly using his own efforts.
"Traffic is like a picture, and we should not only look at the left and right side or only part of it. We should see it in its entirety. Everybody should perceive it from the point of view of the whole city instead of his own family or own interests and needs," said Bruce, adding that he would like go direct the traffic every day if he could.
