BEIJING, June 20 -- The Ministry of Civil Affairs on Monday made public the names of 83 offshore NGOs registered abroad by Chinese applicants.
According to Chinese regulations, social institutions established on the mainland should register with civil affairs departments.
The offshore NGOs, named Monday, were registered by Chinese residents outside China because of the low registration barriers, according to the ministry.
The ministry has so far named 748 offshore NGOs. Those disclosed on Monday include the Chinese Calligraphers and Artists Association, China Photography Association and China Confucius Foundation.
The entire list is available online, said the ministry, adding that it would keep updating the list and encourage the public to offer tip-offs.
