As many soccer fans across the world are celebrating the UEFA Euro 2016, half way across the globe, China is participating in the game in a different way – with massive production of flags and souvenirs at Chinese factories for the excited fans, as usual.
Xiangying textile company in Shaoxing, a city in east China’s Zhejiang province, received over 7 million orders for national flags six months before the Euro 2016 kicked off on June 10 in France. While the company is already working overtime for the orders just as will be done when similar soccer events are held, more orders keep arriving, reported news site guancha.cn.
“Generally, we receive orders on our website when a group stage match ends,” the company manager surnamed Jiang told guancha.cn. Jiang said the biggest order came from a beer factory in Belgium which ordered over 4 million Belgium national flags. Orders from Germany ranked second in the company.
Jiang said his company, as a veteran in national flag manufacturing for international soccer events, broke a record by making 9 million flags within 13 days.
“It is the busiest time for us during major sports events,” agreed Wang Rongcheng, a manager with the Rongcheng import & export company in Yiwu, Zhejiang, which sells soccer souvenirs, including hats, glasses, vuvuzela and masks.
Wang told guancha.cn that souvenirs of Germany, Belgium and France are the best sellers. “Orders for Germany during Euro 2016 totaled 4 million yuan ($608,000) in total.”
For another company in Yiwu, that is the Dingli sporting goods company received orders from European countries at 30 percent higher than usual and the company, after being authorized to print logos for the Euro 2016, now produces over 7,000 related soccer balls every day, according to guancha.cn.
