
CHENGDU, July 7 -- The Chinese air force has put its new indigenously designed and developed large transport aircraft through its paces in a landmark maiden flight.
The Chinese People's Liberation Army Air Force made the announcement at a press conference on Thursday in the southwestern province of Sichuan after the Y-20 officially entered military service on Wednesday.
The multifunctional plane has a maximum takeoff weight of around 200 tonnes, and is ideal for transporting cargo and personnel over long distances in diverse weather conditions.
