
BEIJING, July 15 -- Chinese President Xi Jinpingon Friday called his French counterpart Francois Hollandeto offer his condolences over a deadly truck attack in Nice.
Xi strongly condemned the "appalling brutality" that has killed 84 people so far, and expressed deep grief to the victims and sincere condolences to the injured and families of the victims.
Terrorism is a common threat for all countries, Xi said, adding that China firmly opposes terrorism in any form.
China staunchly supports the French government to defend its national security, and stands ready to work with Franceto deepen their cooperation in combating terrorism, so as to safeguard peace and security of the two countries and the world at large.
French officials said that earlier a truck rammed into a crowd marking the French national day in Nice on Thursday night. According to the latest report, 84 people have been killed and 18 others remained in "critical condition."
