It has been reported that members of the Chinese delegation to the 2016 Summer Olympics have been robbed upon arrival in Rio de Janeiro, where the Games will kick off on August 5.

Chinese track athlete Shi Dongpeng on Wednesday said on his official Weibo account that he lost his laptop.

According to Shi, a man rushed over Shi and vomited towards him while he and his friend were checking into their hotel. After he was back to the hotel lobby from the bathroom, a piece of his luggage was missing.

Shi asked to check the surveillance footage and found out a companion of the man who vomited had stolen the luggage while Shi was in the restroom.

Reporting the case to the police had proved challenging, as Shi had to wait for two hours in the wee hours of the day due to a great number of people at the police station also with their cases to report.

Shi is not the only one.

Many Chinese nationals, including Olympic athletes, officials, journalists and tourists, have reportedly been victims of robberies, thefts and even life threats.

The Chinese Embassy in Brazil on Thursday released an alert, warning Chinese nationals to be cautious while traveling in Brazil.

The Chinese Foreign Ministry has also issued a similar advisory.

Visitors to Brazil are reminded to leave their jewelries and watches at their hotels and warned not to carry backpacks or use mobile phones while walking on the street.

The Chinese embassy and consulate in Brazil have published plenty of consular protection information and safety guidelines in Chinese. They will set up welcoming stations at international arrival terminals in Rio's airports.

Other countries, including Australia and Japan, have also issued safety warnings to their citizens who are visiting Brazil for the Olympics.
