The first panda cub born in Shanghai is about to turn 1 month old, thepaper.cn reported on Aug. 3.

Guo Guo was already pregnant when she came to Shanghai from Sichuan. After Guo Guo's arrival, the park assembled a special five-person team just to take care of her. At 11:40 a.m. on July 3, Guo Guo gave birth to a cub. The birth took only one minute. It was unusually quick and easy, according to a zookeeper, who explained that it usually takes about 20 minutes for a panda to deliver a cub.

After the cub was born, Guo Guo held her almost 24 hours a day. Indeed, in the monitor room, the reporter observed Guo Guo holding the cub close to her chest. When the cub turned around, it stretched its limbs, looking especially adorable. The cub's eyes have not yet opened. Zookeepers are monitoring the mother and daughter around the clock using a high-definition surveillance system, logging their conditions every hour. A physical check on July 29 showed that the cub weighed 893.4 grams and was 29 centimeters long. These numbers are both above average for a panda cub.

Min Yingguo, a zookeeper, said, "After [the cub] can walk more, she will begin to meet visitors for about one hour each day." According to the zoo, Guo Guo and her cub are expected to start meeting the public in September. However, the zoo will control the number of visitors, and they are considering limiting admission through reservations or lot drawing.
