Chinese women's volleyball team
Chinese women's volleyball and Chinese men's and women's basketball at the Rio Olympics have all concluded with rather disappointing results. Both basketball teams failed to qualify for the quarter final, and the women's soccer team failed in the quarter final game. However, although the Chinese women's volleyball team was defeated by the U.S. team with a score of 1:3, they still ranked fourth in Group B and were able to enter the knockout stage.
In the last group match against the U.S., head coach Lang Ping changed the starting line-up. Although the spiker Zhu Ting scored 23 points and ranked first in spiking, the team still lost three games with scores of 17:25, 19:25 and 19:25.

Competing with the U.S. women's basketball team, the Chinese team was roundly defeated and knocked out of the next round with just one win and four defeats. Since the Serbian team beat the Senegalese team, China ranked fifth in the group matches and tenth overall. The Chinese men's team did not win any games.
In the quarter final for women's soccer, the Chinese team was defeated by the world champion Germans.

Among these three events, only the Chinese women's volleyball team achieved notable success. After the match between the Brazilian and Russian teams in Group A, the pairings for the next round were promptly released. The Chinese team will go up against the Brazilians, Olympic hosts and defending champions. It is likely to be a very challenging match for the Chinese team, judging from both teams' previous records.
Lang believes that the Rio Olympic Games are useful for cultivating younger athletes. "They are eager to do well in their first Olympics, but the reality is cruel. We were in 'fight to the death' situation, and every team performed well. Our skills and experiences were not sufficient to beat the other competitors. We hope to make a breakthrough, but there is still a long way to go."
