A young sheep in Bohu County, Xijiang Uygur Autonomous Region recently attracted a great deal of interest and attention when it was revealed as possessing five horns, China News reported on Aug. 29.
In addition to the two regular horns on top of the sheep’s head, two more are located near its left ear, with one more near its right ear. The longest horn is 16 centimeters, while the shortest is 10 centimeters.
The owner of the remarkable animal said he usually feeds his sheep standard animal feed and rotten fruit without any additives.
Li Hong, senior veterinarian of the Bohu Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Bureau, said that this kind of situation only occurs in hybrid sheep due to genovariation in the genetic process.
