| Xiaowen says goodbye to Lucky. |
Xiaowen, a girl from Shanghai, recently flew more than 1,000 kilometers to Chengdu in order to find new owners for her two beloved pet dogs, Chengdu Economic Daily reported.
The two dogs, named Lucky and Zhuzhu, were both adopted by Xiaowen before she was diagnosed with a malignant tumor. Xiaowen said her only requirement for the dogs' new owners is that they truly love the animals.
"My health condition does not allow me to take care of so many stray animals," said Xiaowen, who, in addition to Lucky and Zhuzhu, has also adopted two homeless cats and two stray dogs.
Chengdu's pet adoption platform is one of the main reasons Xiaowen decided to bring the dogs there. She worried that there are too many dogs already awaiting adoption in Shanghai, so it might be a long time before Lucky and Zhuzhu got adopted by a Shanghai family.
Traveling all the way to Chengdu, Xiaowen hoped to meet potential adopters in person and show her sincerity. She said that as long as the dogs could be adopted by good people, it would be completely worth the cost of the trip. Xiaowen looked for adopters who would be caring and patient. Most importantly, she emphasized, it was essential that they would never abandon the dogs.
Finally, one of the dogs was adopted by a young girl, though the other is still waiting for its "forever home." Xiaowen was scheduled to return to Shanghai on Monday, Sept. 12, but she went back early due to her health condition. She will soon receive further treatment in Shanghai.
