Yao Ming, Lang Ping, China's Three Tenors and six other celebrities were invited to promote the solicitation of names and logos for China's Mars Exploration Project. This is the first time that such "ambassadors" have been invited to publicize a major scientific project in China.

Yao Ming
According to an official at the Lunar Exploration and Aerospace Engineering Center, this move aims to raise the public's awareness of China’s lunar exploration projects. The 11 ambassadors will use their influence to publicize the significance of the project, encouraging young people to study science and pushing interested parties around the world to submit suggestions for names and logos.

Lang Ping
The Mars probe will likely be sent directly into Earth-to-Mars transfer orbit via carrier rockets Long March-5.
